I have an large assembly with parts created in the assembly on planes. When I go to move the planes/parts I get an error on the inplace mate saving it can't move to the distance to solve the condition. The condition resolves when I save and exit and re-open the assembly. I never had this happen in the past so I am wondering is there a setting that I switched on/off that controls this?
Yes and in the past that has worked. Thats why I am wondering has a setting changed
It's hard to say without seeing your assembly, but the best suggestion I have is to change your workflow, if possible. Instead of creating the planes in the assembly and referencing these planes in your parts, I believe that creating the planes in the parts and having them reference geometry in the assembly may work better.
Have you tried doing a Ctrl+Q rebuild when you get the error message?
