I want to create a series of sketched blocks for inserting into my 2D drawings (.drw files) and would like to be able to dictate the offset of the text from boarders etc. however i can't seem to find a conclusive answer to the "can you constrain text?" question. a google search and solidworks help search seems to say you can do it in part sketches for extruding etc. but i want to do it for 2D blocks.

i have noted that if you grab a grip piont around the text and drag that to some geometry it seems to highlight the geometry and a coincident constraint symbol shows beside the cursor, but it doesn't actually add the constraint.

i have also read that you can dimension to the grip points around the text, but it doesn't seem to work for me. is that only a part sketch thing?

is this possible?

are there any work arounds to solve this proble if it isn't directly possible in solidworks?

thanks in advance for any help.
