solidworks crashes when editing dimensions

Question asked by Elmar Klammer on Mar 6, 2013

Hello,

I have a odd problem with Solidworks crashing. I have 2010 and 2013 installed (latest service packs on WIN 7 PRO) but this

problem occured on a single installation of 2010 as well. I did a clean uninstall and install already and the problem perists.

Here is the issue. When i am editing a feature (dbl mouse click to get access to say  extrusion feautre dimensions or sketch dimensions) and change a dimension value (SEE FIG0),

Solidworks "freezes" at random and disappears in a strange way. This doesn't always happen but happens a good dozen times a day.

Below is the issue i am having:

a) Solidworks stays open ( i can rotate the model with my space mouse)

b) Solidworks shows up in the list of running programs in the task manager (fig2) and in the taskbar (fig1)

c) If I alt-tab select to switch inbetween application windows (fig3) however Solidworks doesn't show anymore.

d) I can not edit the part anymore and must close solidworks completely

My hunch is it has something to do with the mouse drive (ms intellimouse optical).

My hope is somebody had the same issue and can help me with some tips.

Thanks,

Elmar
