Everytime I try to insert a dimple that I have created on to a surface of a sheet metal part, the program is asking me if I am trying to make a derived part. If I choose no, it opens the dimple that I have drawn. If I choose yes, it wants me to place it into my part as another part instead of a form tool. Some of my form tools are working correctly and others are giving me the same error. What could be causing such an error?
Right click on your forming tool folder and select "Forming tool folder" from the list, now it will work correctly.

As Troy says, you have to set the folder type, then the icon will change to show a forming tool.
I had the exact same problem when I upgraded from 2012 to 2013. My VAR said that a fresh install avoids this issue. My reason for doing an upgrade was an attempt to keep my "paths" to templates etc, which previous installs lost.
