Upcoming Meeting Reminder, Next Week

Question asked by Chris Scarlett on Feb 19, 2013

This is a reminder of our upcoming meeting in just about 10 days on Thursday February 28th at the Oxford Suite’s in Yakima in their 1st floor meeting room, 6 – 8pm.

Agenda:

Matt Sordillo from the Rapid Group will be giving a short presentation via GoToMeeting at the beginning of our meeting on the new SolidQuote, SolidWorks Add In from Rapid Sheet Metal.  I tried this and it works seamlessly with SolidWorks and provides exactly what its name implies, an almost instant quote.  I made a short instructional video on how to download, install and use it at the following link: http://youtu.be/LE_pBR0nOBEYou can get started at: https://www.esheetmetal.com.

CAD superstar, Michael Steeves, Senior Application Engineer and CSWE from Quest Integration will be presenting:

“Does your Model Hold Water?” covering the topics related to Import/Export Healing, 2D to 3D including:

  • Tips, Tricks and Techniques
  • Why do imports fail and how can I get a better export?
  • How can I heal and repair imported geometry (2D and 3D)?
  • Converting 2D to 3D.
  • Case study: Plastic injection molds

Michael was the 3rd place champion in SolidWorks World’s 2013 Model Mania Contest competing against over 200 other participants!  Not only did he receive recognition in front of 4500 people at the conference but he also received some great prizes including a Google Nexus 7 Tablet and an NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics card!  Last year he came in real close but it was this year that he made his mark.  Great job Michael!

I will also be giving a short follow-up to the fun and excitement from SolidWorks World 2013 including videos and a slide show. Some highlights that I think that were really interesting include a video on the new Mcor Iris 3D printer (that uses printer paper as a medium), Festo’s SmartBird, plus other fun things.

Our annual Topics Survey will be passed out listing subjects that you may like to see presentations on.  With your votes we can line up speakers for the coming year.  I found some presenters from SolidWorks World that may be willing to speak on subjects such as developing Smart Components and when to choose Solid or Surfacing Modeling techniques.

As promised, as a follow-up from my email last month, I explored Autodesk’s 123D scanning software and the Meshmixer modeling program and have posted a review on my limited success and potential of these programs. This can be found on my website at the following link:  http://edi3di.com/discussions/123d-catch-as-a-scanner-for-importing-surface-models/

For Sale: NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics card from Michael Steeves (he already has a faster card!).  He will bring it to the meeting, new in box, he is asking $350.

This meeting will be sponsored by the Rapid Group, SolidWorks Users Group Network and the design team of Jeff Abramson and myself at Enterprise Design and Innovations
