Hi guys, I have a load (assume) 50kg on a box section 50mm x 50mm x 3mm, 1060 Alloy (aluminium), fixed at both ends. how do I work out the value of elastic deformation on the material when the load is removed. Without going past the elastic limit? solidworks or hand calculations welcome. So to recap a load is applied, the material deforms but when the load is removed the material will not go back to its original limit, thats the value I wish to find out.
I can't find the option in simulation to find this out.
Hi Michael: You will need to conduct a "plastic" deformation to find out the "permanent set" after removal of load, using the nonlinear module of Sim. There are some tutorials on that particular simulation built-in to the software. I have only seen the term "elastic" (in this context) referenced to the structure returning to (or "spring back" to) its original position after the load is removed - i.e., it's no longer all-elastic phenomena if the structure does not fully return to its initial position. Hope that helps. -Tony
