i am rookie in rounting part of solidworks and have encutered some difficulties here. In my line of work we are encountering pipe lines that have a lot of valves and instrumentation. Let say that my line starts at the nozzle of a liquid holding tank. right at the start i have a gate valve, bleeding ring and one more gate valve. How should i procee here (and in any other similar situation)? Should i start the route (with valve - start by drag/drop) or should i import valves and the ring first and then stat with the route?
thanks
It's great when valves are 'smart' so that when Ø chances they change with. None the less I prefer them to be not smart and just drop them in the routing assembly as points to work towards also because it makes it easier concerning BOM's on the drawings to prefab the spoolpieces.
The only bit of advice I can give you is think modular. Nothing is as fustrating as having one little thing going wrong and it taking out an entire major assembly. It's very tempting to gave mates and such between all and sundry but the more self contained something is the more flexible you'll end up being when it comes to making drawings or when something goes wrong. This is true in any ASM but double so when using Routing.
