is it possible to prevent users renaming folders in EPDM?
I agree with Raghav. I handled this by enabling the add/rename permission, but preventing the standard rename process through the API and creating my own rename utility.
Yes, But with a zinx. Unfortunately in EPDM Add & Renaming the folder is one permission.
If a user has a permission to add a folder, he could rename it as well. So if you are intending to remove both capabilities to the user, remove add or rename folders on the folder permissions.
But if you want user to add folder, name it once and then stop the user by renaming, We need to do a customisation.
Hope this helps !
Sounds like I am not the only person that would like to see the add/rename permissions split into two separate ones.
How about separating move and delete as well?
I agree, Wish to have two separate permissions for add and rename files on the workflow states.
I would get yourself and all your friends to add yourself to SPR 541016: Add and rename should be separate permissions. It's been combined from the beginning and I also would prefer it to be separate.
I would like to see the Add or Delete a folder, Add or Rename file permissions separated.
I would also like a "Move a folder" permission added!!
Another option is to make a Template to create the folder and execute it as a user who has rights to add/rename a folder. That way you do't have to give add/rename permissions to the other user.
This is the best solution in my opinion. You can manipulate the permissions using current "out of the box" functionality.
We do exactly this. We have a templates to create folder structures at 'levels' were users should not be able add random folders or delete them and it runs as 'Admin' for creating standardised folders - the user is prompted for the information required for the standard naming of the folders. This prevents mistakes and is also a LOT faster for the users.
At the deeper levels the user has delete rights - I don't care as that is where they are 'oragnising' there files. They still can't 'Destroy' so even if they delete the wrong folder it can be restored easily.
