IF/THEN INSIDE EQUATIONS

Is it possible to have in/then statements inside an equation that has an instant count for a linear pattern?

My problem is I am needing to reference one to the other in both of the equations in order to get what I need.  Right now I have Dim 1 set in and equation that depends on the instant count of the pattern, which is not a problem.  My problem is where I have to limit my "Dimension 1" to not go over 96".  I therefore tried to add another equation to the pattern again stating the if "Dimension 1" is over 96" the add 1 more to the instant count.  This causes an error obviously because if it does reach 96" then it adds another instant to the pattern, but once it does that it sees that "Dimension 1" is less than 96" and tries to take back the additional instant that it just added.  What would be a good solution?
