Unique Hole Patterns In Configurations

Hello All,

I apologize if this is somewhere in the forums already but I can't seem to dig up what I'm looking for in the help or forums.

I'm new to configurations, and I'm sure this is actually really simple: All I want to do is make a hole pattern configuration specific. It's not really even a pattern, they're holes that I'm putting in based on a top-down assembly model that are meant to be coincedent with certain parts.

So basically, I need the entire sketch for the Hole Wizard Feature to be specific to the particular Configuartion. I've tried "right-clicking" the feature and saying "This Configuration" in the drop down menu, but for some reason it resets itself to "Linked to Parent Configuration" immediately. Is this the option I should be changing?

Hopefully I've provided enough info for some basic help on how to do this.

Mike,

You best option (most stable) may be to create distinct instances of hole patterns for each config. When a Hole Pattern isn't used, it can be supressed in the config it isn't used in.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good idea, and I'll use it for now so that I can finish this project up.

Hopefully someone else out there can enlighten on how to make the sketch of a hole pattern configuration specific for the future.

Depending on what is changing, this may be the best option.

If you are changing features of the pattern itself like hole spacing or position, you can use the hole position sketch from hole wizard and change dimensions based on configuration. You can even control hole count if you used one of the pattern tools in the sketch.

If however you are changing something with the hole itself, like diameter or depth it is much simpler to suppress the original holes and make new ones. You could try to change dimensions in the hoe form sketch, but they can be changed back in all configs at the same time by changing something in the hole wizard settings for that hole pattern.

This is exactly what I thought/need to do. The only thing that was changing in the hole wizard was the sketch. Hence, I thought it should be configurable. I think where the problem lies is the fact that the hole count is changing, and that I did not use the pattern tool to create the holes. The hole count is different for all configurations as well as the hole "pattern" is totally manually driven to specific locations.
