$Color sets the colour of a part. We all know that. There's all kinds of tools around to help one calculated the necessary numbers to put in to get a certain color. I personnaly use an excel sheet I made way before I started to use SW.
While $Color is all fine and well it seems to mean however that if a part exists which has an appearance/color assigned to a feature(s) that it won't influence those features.
Is there a way to set the appearance of a feature in a design table or is one doomed to have to rebuilt the part making sure that any and all superfluous colours have been removed before assigning them in a display table ?
Peter,
The trick is that the appearance of faces has priority over the appearance of features, which has priority over the color of bodies, which has priority over the color of parts. I believe that you would have to clear all of the higher priority appearances before you assign your part color. I have no idea if this can be done in a design table. I'm sure one of the API guys can write a macro to remove all of the appearances, in fact, I think one has already been written. You can probably find it by searching in the forums on "remove color" or something like that.
