Can Solidwork do a flat pattern shape like the sheet metal dev does.

Hi,

I am a newbie in solidworks and still learning. I do have a query to make. Basically, the company were I am working is engage in Passive Fire Protection (Jacket) we do protect pipes, equipments, etc... Now, I was wondering if Solidworks has the capability of doing a flat pattern from 3D objects like what the sheet metal is doing before they bend the sheet metal.

have attach an image for a clearer understanding on what I am referring too.

Appreciate any info given.

The way i would do this layout is by using gore's.
A series of mitered cylinders to approximate the elbow.
This I believe can not be done automatically by solidworks

Not sure if this model will help but at least it should add to he disscussion I've found that using the "Swept Flange" sheet metal command doesen't always give me an exact flat development although one can tweek it to get close but you need to undestand forming to know what your end result should be. Hope this helps
