I am a freshman in high school, and am taking a concurrent enrollment Solidworks Class. I plan on taking similar and more advanced classes throughout high school, and am looking to major in engineering in college. I am buying a new laptop, and am wondering which processor will run the current and future editions of Solidworks better? I am looking for a Windows 8 laptop, and can within my budget ($700-850) either buy a computer with an i5 Ivy Bridge processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000 Graphics Card, 6GB of RAM, and a touchscreen, or a computer with an i7 Ivy Bridge processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000 Graphics Card, 8GB expandable to 16GB RAM, and no touchscreen. I want the touchscreen because thats what Windows 8 was designed for. Solidworks is the heaviest software I run, and I was wondering if the i5 processor will run Solidworks just fine, or if the i7 is really needed to run Solidworks well.
