The part in an assembly has no external referances or mates. It is not fixed. But it will not move... can't figure out why!
I assume you've RMB'ed on the part in the tree to see if the Float option is there.
Have you checked at Tools > Options > System Options > Assemblies to make sure that "Move components by dragging" is still checked?
There is no option for Float. And Yes "Move components by dragging" is still checked. So weird. I've tried restarting solidworks but still the same problem.
I recently updated to 2013, this may be a glitch. I've never had this problem before.
Try a force rebuild by pressing ctrl + Q. If this doesn't work, then try adding mates to the part and see if that makes the part to move.
How was the part inserted into the assembly? Did you drag it in from Windows Explorer, or use the Insert Components function and then either click in the graphics area to place it or click the green check mark?
I figured it out. I had an extra unneseary assebmly level...my mistake. Thanks for your help Glen!
