    Manual for 3Dvia composer

    Gary Williams

Where can I download a manual for 3Dvia composer?

Any recommended websites for training new users?

      THanks,

      Gary.

most manuals are a thing of the past Gary.  The help, and online support have replaced them.

There are several videos on youtube that gives a pretty good start. Only way I know to get the manuals is to take the training class. You could beg your VAR for them but they guard them pretty well. I recommend taking the class and it is very informative to get you going. What I did and worked well was to use the trial for the period making several notes on what I did not understand and took it with me to the class. The classes are normally pretty small so plenty of time for questions and one on one help. Hope this gives you a start also check out 3dviacomposerforum.com

Gary, SolidWorks has a very good manual that comes with the Composer course. Take a look at the content of this manual:

I agree with John, the class is definitely animation heavy. That being said if your interest will never require animation it is a pretty easy software to learn with the online recourses that have been mentioned. I do a lot of animations so the cost of the class was covered by my time saved of having to teach myself. Even with my experience in video editing through Adobe products the learning curve was greatly reduced by taking the classes. Really comes down to how quickly you need to use the product and what you will use it for IMO.

We have had one seat of 3Dvia composer for a couple of years, and nobody has had time to look at the software's capabilliltes.

One of our manufacturing Engineers is looking at using it for Work Instruction procedures & Repair and overhaul manuals.

At this point he needs to get an understanding of the software, to see if it would be "value added" to use. Presently pictures are pasted into Power Point to create procedures. The company will not send anyone on 3 days training if they do no understand what the software does, and what advantages there are over the present process.

Would 3Dvia be good for Work Instruction procedures & Repair and Overhaul manuals?

The big advantage I see with 3Dvia is that you can create images from SWX models before parts are ever made.

The other big plus is that the images will update as the models are updated.

                    Gary.

the answer is Yes. I have been using it for a year and it cuts my time for manuals or other service material along with marketing in more than half the time. I use it hand in hand with Indesign so I am always up to date on changes. For me i found no other process that is this smooth. Sure it can be done but in my experience with a lot more steps. Ask your VAR for some companies in your area for examples. It was a hard sale for me also but well worth it.

It actually goes way beyond that Gary!  Work instructions are a huge part of what it is intended for.  If you are a CAD guy, it will take some getting used to, but once you've figured out how things move about and how visually it works you'll be loving it!!  You also have total control of what an when you update the actors (this was a biggie for me).  Trying to do all the graphics is SWKs is cumbersome, and with manuals like what you are talking about, Composer will be a blessing!  Just remember that this is not a CAD tool, it's a publishing tool and you'll appreciate it that much more!

I  thought you said manuals are a thing of the past? If I offered that sort of support to my customers, I would lose them.

I'm not a VAR, I'm a SolidWorks and Composer user.  Guess when I was thinking manual, I was thinking of the bounded paper type.  There is the online downloaded kind though.  To me, the help inside software is just easier than a manual because of the organization and the search capabilities.

Gary, would you be interested in getting a phone call from a Composer specialist? Your engineer can discuss your company needs and maybe even watch various ways to use the software.
