Does anyone know a method of taking Solidworks files into Cinema 4D so the file retains it's decals?
you may want to try something like talked about here https://forum.solidworks.com/message/328809#328809
otherwise you can just apply the decals in 4d.
Thanks Aaron. I've seen a lot about using a middle step programme, but none of them mention decals being translated.
A bit more info:
I've tried the obj exporter without success. It tends to hang Solidworks 2012/13.
I've also been looking at the Solidworks Collada exporter: http://labs.solidworks.com/products/product.aspx?name=colladaexport
But again it doesn't work with Solidworks 2012/13
I seem to be getting nowhere with plugins that are no longer working for the latest versions.
I think I will have to export as individual files, piece together in Cinema and then retexture.
A long winded process, but a have to if I want to make the most of the render engine there.
hi chris, the collada export works with materials but not with decals.I've been trying to work out how to get my solidworks files turned into .obj files with decals and materials. but it seems no one has got the decal part sorted.
i have noticed that the alot of the transparent materials turn opaque.
Before saving your SWorks files (including decals), be sure that the checkbox for "Store Appearance, decal, ..." is checked "on" in Options/Document Properties/Model Display. This may help with the problem although I don't know anything about Cinema 4D.
It will not work because SW doesn't use UV mapping for the decals....it is basically just a plane with the image on it.
