Global variables and equations in assemblies - design tables

I have an assembly with a global variable: A=1.

I want to drive parts in my assembly with this variable. ie. "D1@Sketch1@Part0.Part" = "D1@Length"-A (Where 'length' is a distance mate, that is a column in my design table). I have D1@Length, D1@Width, D1@Height as column headers in my design table.

I would also like to drive the value of A with the design table.

I created a column header in the design table called "$VALUE@A@equations".

When I exit the design table I get a warning in the upper right of my screen that states, "Column heading "$VALUE@A@equations" contains an invalid equation specifier.

Exiting table without completing model update."

I'm pretty green to using variables like this. I'm not sure if I have the syntax incorrect....or I'm just totally off base.

No one else has this question

Since you haven't gotten an answer here, you might try asking this in the Design Tables and Configurations forum (or Configurations and Design Tables forum, just coming back from vacation and I've forgotten everything I know about work).

Wondering if this issue has been answered anywhere. Not finding anything in the knowledge base, and this thread is all I can find about this particular issue. This is a strange error, because I can use a design table to insert into an assembly and a part file that I want to share the global variable with, but in another related assembly (top level) I get this error, so I'm prevented from sharing the global variable between all the documents I need to. Here's a screenshot of the error that pops up when closing the design table:

Has anyone yet found a solution to this? I'm looking in the help files and I am typing in the "correct" syntax. However, I get the same message that Dan Hanger is having. Any help anywhere?

Hi Everyone,

I think I may have accidentally stumbled upon a solution to this. I had exactly the same problem come up after working on my model. I haven't done any changes to the design table and all of the sudden I started to get this same message.

After of a couple of minutes I tried to think back to what I may have done to cause this error, tried deleting all the features that I've added before it started happening but that didn't fix the problem.

THEN... I remembered that while clicking in my design tree I accidentally clicked on "Solid Bodies" folder and rename mode for that folder was entered. I quickly exited without any changes but then thought (from programming point of view) what if $VALUE@constant@equations is case sensitive, but not case sensitive by default. As in @equations part is referring to Equations folder where all of your global variables are sitting and what if by even triggering rename folder in the top of design tree somehow switched it to case sensitive mode.

TL;DR Since in your design tree Equations folder has a capital letter all I did is changed my specifier to @Equations and it worked

Think back if you accidentally may have changed or manually changed any of the names of folders or any other features before "Front Plate" Features in your design tree. This may have triggered the issue. Hope this will solve your problem.

This may also explain your error as it looks like you've entered your Specifier in upper case letters
