Hey, so basically for a school project I'm making an adjustable lectern. But I only want to be able to move it between the top of the inner colomn and the top of the base. Otherwise it will self intersect or float or whatever. Is there any easy way of doing this?

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you need a Limit Mate. They are in the Advanced Mate section of the Mate FeatureManager.
I don't see that option in advanced mates. I'm using Solidworks 2009 if that makes a difference.
I'm pretty sure it was in SW2009. Start the Mate command, then click on Advanced Mates to get what Adrian posted.
