Modify and use this spring. after moving the assy rebuild and the spring will adjust.

I think your spring is cleaner than the one in the video I linked to, since it eliminates creating a new plane, but I have a question. You said to mate the endpoints in the assembly, but I couldn't get that to work. Am I missing something?
I mated one end of the spring (the end at the top plane), then edited sketch1 in the assembly and make the un-defined endpoint coincident with the surface of the component of my assembly. That worked well.
Thats correct.
FYI, the solve as rigid/fexible setting only applies to sub-assemblies.
If you mate the end points of the spring path it will still update on a rebuild.

Here is another option (I could not view Glens Video)
create sketch 1 (dia of spring)
create a helix per your specs
sketch2 is the spring dia.
if you turn on Instant3d you can flex the spring.

Check out this video. I've used this method a time or two, although you may need to Ctrl+Q your assembly occasionally to update it.
