At Essex we are running Citrix for virtual desktops. It is possible to run SolidWorks from any device that has the Citrix client, which includes mobile devices like an iPad.

This is our largest assembly, totaling over 1,000 fully resolved components. You can see that there is no video acceleration (software OpenGL), and the interface doesn't work well with my fat fingers. With an iPod or iPhone being used as a Citrix mouse device, this would work to edit SolidWorks models, although I wouldn't want to do it this way all day.
