File size shrinks by EcoSqueeze but not Save As

SW2007 SP1.1

I've noticed that some of my part files become quite large (30 MB), even after I run them through EcoSqueeze. Saving as a copy doesn't reduce them in size, either.

If I use EcoSqueeze's option to strip the Parasolid, however, the file reduces to 1.5 MB. When I open that file, let SW rebuild it, and save it again, it's 3 MB. That's right: just 10% of the original size.

Any idea what's going on here? I had thought that doing a Save As gave you a fresh, small file, but not this time. Saving those 30 MB files takes so long that it discourages regular saves, so I'm thinking of letting EcoSqueeze strip the Parasolids on my whole project. (Of course I'd have to let SW rebuild the features afterwards.)
