In previous versions of solidworks mates were a one time command that you had the option to pin so that it would be a running command for multiple mates. I really want it to work that way agian but i cant seem to find that option.

What version are you now using? Mine has always remained active from SW2009 to SW2012.
Edit: I just re-read your post and I'm not sure I understand. When I activate the Mate command and make my selections I click OK. That mate is done and the command remains active for another mate, and remains so until I click OK again with no selections made. Is that now how it's working for you?
I've been using SW since 2001 and back then this is what I looked like. I'm not sure which version changed it maybe 2005? When using the mate command I would only generate one mate unless you clicked the little pin icon. If you didn’t click the icon then once you made that mate the command would exit and you would have to start the mate command again if you wanted another. The only reason I’m asking is that I have a large assembly that I’m mating lots and lots of planes together that I’m having to hunt through parts to find the ones I want and its getting annoying having to manually exit the command, but I’ll get use to it I guess.
Thanks
I assume it's this way now because you normally need at least three mates to fully define a component's position, and though I haven't been using SW for nearly as long as you have it's usually my practice to fully define one component's position and then exit the command before starting on another. I close the command and start it back because if you do a series of mates without exiting the command, and then hit the back button, the whole series of mates are removed and not just the last one. Evidently SW treats all mates made with one session of the command as one operation.
If you are talking about the ability to hold off on regenerating the file until you are have changed several mates, it was shown as a new option in SW2013. I thought it was interesting because I am virtually positive that it used to be included functionality until a few years ago.
If you are talking about disabling the Presidential Running Mates (Biden/Ryan) - I think 1 more debate may accomplish the goal .
Ater specifying the entities to mate and setting your alignment options, if you hit enter twice, it will exit. Works especially well if you preselect your entities to mate.
Yeah that’s what I've adopted as my fix, unfortunately it causes me an extra mouse click but I can live with it. Turning off the preview saves me some time too. I'm just frustrated because it seems that every time Solidworks or Microsoft come out with new software they think they are making things easier by adding ribbon tool bars and running commands but in reality they just cause me extra clicks.
Speed in design is very important to me and if you saw my work load you would know what I mean.
Thanks guys
