I was just browsing the benmark results and was wondering how much use they are??
The top result is
CPU - 5.0
Real view - 1.9
Grphics - 1.2
I/O - 0.9
Rendering - 2.5
Does the system of uploading results need a total overhaul, in my mind it does.
How much use or value any benchmark data is or has is relative to how much cross-reference data you compare it to. Personally I don't use the SW benchmark since I don't use rendering but the benchmark data at Anna's website has been very helpful in selecting and cost justifying a system. The data can't be viewed in a vacuum though. You will need to research what it means and if it is significant to how you do your job.
I understand what you are saying. The problem if you use passmark bench test you will get a good representation of what is what.
The results shown for the solidworks benchmark are dubious. I suggest you running it and compare your values to the ones I have given and you will then understand the query.
It reminds me of xbox live leader boards on games. Some of the leader boards are totally glitched and you could never actually in reality get the scores/times posted with the game running correctly. You can dowload a ghost of one of the times and suddenly the ghost disappears off the screen and has finished the race with 2 laps to go.
I have more faith in Anna's benchmark, unfortunately Anna's list doesn't include the latest results for SW12 and the newer CPU generations.
I wonder why solidworks doesn't sort the benchmarks posted out. Delete off all the ones which are clearly wrong? Or even better sort it out so false values can't be registered.
As you say anna's has also problems and is rendered pretty well no use without the latest version support.
So you pretty well stuck with pass mark which OK you can't fiddle with but the problem is it's based on full use of mutli processors and not CAD specific.
Clearly the results for a number of the systems are completely bogus. A totally useless site.
