I have sectioned a revolved object by the front plane and I wish to convert the section profile to a sketch on the front plane but the sectioned face is not selectable. Anyone know how I can get around this?
The Section View is just like an X-Ray. That is phantom geometry.
What you need is to use the Intersection Curve tool.
Welcome to the forum. Create a plane at that location and you will be able to sketch on it. After opening a new sketch on this new plane you can use "Convert Entities" to create sketch lines on the model edges.
Thanks, I've never used a solidworks forum before.
The front plane is in this location but converting entities wont work. It's just a visual section I have created, the model is still intact and as such the section profile cannot be converted.
I can understand that you can't convert entities on a visual section, but you should be able to use it when sketching on a plane that intersects the model at the same place. Can you post your model here (click on "Use advanced editor" at the top right above your text box). I'm at home now and don't have SW here, but someone else will probably be able to help.
I have found a way around it. I appreciate your advice on how to upload my model though- that's really useful for me right now.
Thanks for your help!
This is what I wanted to do, thanks so much.
