I want to rotate a part as I translate it. Example: showing a fastener rotating as it comes off a bolt.
Thanks,
Chris

Deepak,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I was able to apply the screw mate, but when I tried to create multiple configurations at different rotation locations, it didn't seem to work.
Parts jumped to new location, instead of rotating into position.
Chris
I've used this option for making animations only so not sure how it is going to react in multi configurations.
You can try one more method here. Add a distance and angle mate to the part. Now in every configuration, change the angle and distance which will give effect of both rotary and exploded.
Hi John,
I usually just make exploded views for a drawing. In that case motion is simulated with straight or rotation arrows.
I want to learn about creating animation of exploded views, so that's what prompted my question.
I saw in "exploded view" I can animate explode or collapse, then save as .avi file.
I am currently using SolidWorks 2009 Professional with no other add-ins, so I'm not sure what options I have.
Thanks,
Chris
OK, Chris, I think I understand. For your rotation arrows in your drawings you're going to have to come up with something on your own like a drawing block or sketch geometry to indicate the rotation angle.
If you want to indicate rotation in the explode line sketch, frist creat a configuration with the components in their unrotated position. In that configuration, add an exploded view and an explode lines sketch. Use the fillet and arc tools to construct your trails.
I tried to upload a screen capture, but suddenly that's not working-probably related to a recent java update
Not yet. Vote on this ER:
SPR 647038: Ability to rotate parts ( components ) using the manipulator ( triad ) or property manager when creating an exploded view
Hopefully they will introduce the same functionality that exists now in the Composer.
