I have an HP Z200 with Nvidia quadro FX380 video card, 350W power supply, Intel I3 dual core 2.93Ghz, running windowsXP64 (will be upgrading to Windows 7 when 2013 is released) and I just upgraded from 4 Gb ram to 16Gb DDR3.
The reason I upgraded the ram was because this PC is super slow. It takes a couple min. to open large assemblies and frequently locks up when working with large assemblies.
I spoke with HP about the problem. They told me with SolidWorks the processor will kick the heavy video out to the Video card, so, I should upgrade the video card. However, my power supply is too small for a much bigger card, so I would have to upgrade that as well. Therefore, it would be advisable to upgrade the entire PC, because I would invest too much into a Z200. There recommendation was to upgrade to a Z600.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
