I am new to the admin roll so please excuse my lack of knowledge. Can I install the PDMW client on a non solid works users computer to alow them to valult documents. We have several EE's that dont run solid works but need to vault schematics and other files.

Thanks for the quick reponce. I do have some network licenses to use if they work. I guess I will call my VAR this morning when they open.
I've never worked with workgroup before, but I thought it did not do much with non-SW files.

It sounds like you are using PDM Workgroup. I believe the licenses Chris mentioned were for PDM Enterprise. We use Workgroup and I just install Solidworks Explorer for the individuals that need to access our vault, but who don't use Soildworks. Most of the time they are just checking out a copy of a model to look at with E-drawings. This does require one of our Solidworks network licenses to use SW Explorer.
Workgroup can vault non-solidworks files and keep track of revisions/versions, but I don't think you can make associations to models or other files, like Enterprise. I have only experimented with vaulting non-solidworks files in PDM. We have a seperate PLM software that we use for vaulting all of our other documentation.

We check in and attach non SW files into our PDM Workgroup vault regularly.
In our scheme of things, we have PDF copies of drawings attached directly to the drawings themselves. We also have a "supporting documents" folder and an ECO folder under each project where we add office type documents. Once these are checked into the vault we then "attach" them to the SW files to which they pertain. These show up as a link under those files.
Our licenses are networked. Non-SW people get to the vault via SW Explorer. Currently we have a surplus of licenses. When the non-SW folks open SW Explorer, they consume a full SW license. That only makes sense because we have a surplus. If our engineering ramps back up to use all the licenses, we will have to add the contributor licenses. If I recall, the contributors run in the neighborhood of $500 each in packs of five.

There are 2 options I know of. There is a Contributor License and a Web Viewer License.
Contributor allows users to acces the vault through SolidWorks Explorer and can Check Files in and out.
Web Viewer (sold in packs of 5 licenses) allows users to view the vault as read only. They can take files out, but not check in.
If you have extra SW Licenses, you could just install it on their system as well. That is if you have extra or always have open network seats.
