# 1 of 4 views on a drawing is reporting an incorrect measure

A fairly simple drawing from a simple part has 4 views on it. Three of the views (NW, SW, NE) report a diameter as being .472 (correct) while the fourth (SE) reports it as .446 (incorrect). All four views refer back to the same part file; all four views are reporting the diameter on the same cut-extrude.

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Mel,

You're grabbing the edges of your slots.

Mel,

Have you tried importing the dimensions from the model?  Unless you are doing that

Ken and Erik are correct and you are obviously grabbing the incorrect tangent points.

Also, something to keep in mind is if you import the dimensions from the model, make sure

the view in the drawing is in the same orientation as the model sketch.

Why is that important?

From my perspective if you have the true dimension in the model then importing it into the

drawing gives you the exact points that are needed to dimension to.

Thanks Scott, I understand that. But why did you say that the drawing view orientation should match the sketch orientation?

• ###### Re: 1 of 4 views on a drawing is reporting an incorrect measure

Because my experience has told me that (a specially when it comes to odd or different shapes)

if the view in the drawing does not match the orientation of the sketch in which the dimension is

created in it wont insert.

Thanks Scott.

Hi Mel

It is better to get a section view to show hidden details. Dont try show the dimensions in an isometric view in a 2D drawing. Giving dimensions in the way you have created is not the correct way of showing dimensions in a 2D drawing.
