In the above image, the blue highlighted part moves up, the flipper contacts the shaft on the yellow part, and the flipper moves out of the way to accept the shaft on the yellow part. In the position shown, physical dynamics stops and can't find a solution. Can anyone tell from the picture if it should stop there, has it just been a long week for me, or should physical dynamics be able to find the solution I want - the flipper keeps moving out of the way for the shaft to come through?
Here's a picture with the pivot point. The flipper would be mounted to a shaft through the part with the blue highlighted surface.
I think it's just where the surface of the flipper becomes tangent to the shaft, and SW doesn't know what to do with the math-positive to negative, right? That or I don't understand the line of force between the parts.

It certainly seems like the flipper wouldn't have any problem rotating about the pivot point as it slides around the yellow shaft. Are you sure you don't have a mate that is preventing it from rotating?

Have you looked at any of the mechanical mates specifically the cam mate to see if one of those
would give you better results?
Can you post a simplified assembly made only of those components?
Well, shoot. I made a simplified assembly, and it works like butter . So, I have some work to do on my assembly that doesn't work so slick.

It's hard to say without knowing more about how the flipper is mounted. Does it pivot around the shaft that holds the blue part? Does is pivot around the hole to the left? How else is it constrained?
