I have created a form as a drawing in Solidworks. I now want
aneasy way to enter data. I have tried to create a general table
inthe dwg. But if I want to just open the excel doc and enter
dataand have it update the dwg how do I do that? Please help.
Along the lines of what SolidAir is asking, can you be more
specific on the steps you are using.
Do you have a part/asm file associated with your drawing or are you
just creating a drawing file with a table/chart on it? Are you
trying to re-create a form that you have on a drawing format in
AutoCAD into a SolidWorks slddwg?
If you give some more detail on what the desired end result is, I
am sure we can help you.
what I am trying to do is make a form that will have a
descriptionof how an item is to be machined and how to set up the
machine. Sofar I have created a form as a drawing. I have inserted
notes intothe form and have linked properties to them. I have also
linked anassembly to the form/drawing. Now I want to be able to
enter datainto the form the easiest way possible. I think the best
way is byinserting a table (not sure which one is best: general or
bom?). Which I can do but I want to be able to open that table
inexcel and enter the data there and then when I open
theform/drawing in Solidworks for it to be updated. Thanks for
youhelp in advance.
You can Insert an Excel file directly into your SolidWorks drawing.
Insert > Object will bring up a dialog box so you can do an OLE insert. If you
choose to use the 'Create From File with Link checked' option you
can directly link the Excel file to your SolidWorks file. If you
leave Link unchecked the Excel OLE object will not reference back
to you orignial Excel file. You will then be able to update your
drawing without it needing the original Excel file.
I have attached a drawing template slddot file with an embedded
Excel OLE object. When you open the file you can click on the Excel
grid and it will allow you to edit the grid.
This may be a solution for you. Add the info you want to keep for
each drawing, save as a drawing template, then use that template as
the starting point for your set-up sheets.
There are probably other options for you. Can you post a screen
shot of the end product you are trying to create? That may spark a
few more ideas from the group.
Thank you!
