Mate error, even when mate IS working.

Hi people, thanks in advance for reading my message.

I have attached pictures of an assembly where everytime I rebuild I get a message telling me that one of mates in a sub-assembly cannot be satisfied. What I don't understand is it IS satisfied. The distance 1-9/16" from the pin center to the cup surface is always kept regardless of how I move the piston. What could be causing this problem?

Also, you will notice that the spring does not compress as it is supposed to. In the subassembly it belongs in, the height of the tip of the helix is coincident with the interior surface of the cup, so when the cup moves out or in it changes the compression of the spring just fine. However when I bring that assembly within another assembly that relationship seems to not exist anymore. What's wrong here?

Bulent,

I don't know what is going wrong the spurious error message.

To have the spring compress, you have to set the sub assembly to Flexible when it is in the higher assembly.

Thanks for your reply. I started disregarding that error message.

About the spring compression, a lot of people (primarily Deepak) have suggested that setting the sub assembly to flexible should resolve the issue, but it does not.

My experience tells me that the endpoint coincedence relationship of the spring's sketch has to be defined in whatever level assembly one wishes the spring to compress and extend. SW seems to fail to carry on that relationship to higher assembly levels.

The sub-assy that has the spring is already in flexible mode because I am able to move the piston rod and the rod eye.

Sometimes it seems to take a rebuild or two for SolidWorks to get everything in order. Does a CTRL-Q or two help with the spring? (Just guessing here; I really don't have a clue what is happening.)
