tricky mate (cam?)

I have what I thought to be a simple assembly, the attached pictures are the best way to describe it. 

The two parts are concentric; in real life they are along a rod.  The purpose here is a gravity return.  The top piece has weight attached to it so when released from ratation, it will return to the initial position by gravity alone.  Here is the initial position:

The trouble I am having, is since they are mitered cuts at 45 degrees, a coincident mate causes interfierence when rotating, not proper following of the paths.

It wont let me choose a cam mate, as it doesnt quite fit the definition.

The best I have come up with is using physical dynamics option under move component, the parts move as they should, but this stops as soon as I leave the move component.  Is there a way to mate these to move as I want them to?
