I've just began working with Solidworks and have little to no knowledge. I've been asked to make changes to a drawing to work out the design flaw and am trying to make the corner of a block an angle. Any idea where to begin?
Here is two different methods. the second one is better in my opinion. There is also probably about 100 other ways of doing it too.
And of course the chamfer tool! Why didnt i think of that! ?? Use the Vertex option.
What if the obesct was actually like this and wanted to make the radius a flat?
just use a normal cut through the part.
it depends on how it was made - it appears to have rounded edges which you'll lose with a simple cut - you're better off either editing the features that created this radius or extruding a block to fill from front edge to back, add the chamfer, then recreate the edge roundover.
This is part of a larger assembly the was drawn by a company for us, and some of the areas in this part appears to be "locked." I'm having trouble making changes of any kind to this and am not sure if it's becasue I don't enough about the program or some things have been blocked by the company.
not a perfect solution, but you might be able to save as a .step file, then rename it, open it and save it as a sldprt file again. You will lose the ability to change the features that created it, but you will be able to modify it.
What version of SW are you running? if you post a copy of the part here someone can likely find a few minutes to modify it to get you on the right track.
Did you recieve the file in SolidWorks format? Or a different format?
I did receive it in Solidworks format. As Chris suggested, I saved it as a .step and renamed it but then couldn't open it in Solidworks. I've contacted the folks we paid to redraw this assembly to see if the parts I'm trying to change, are locked so that they cannot be changed. It seemed like such a simple problem, I just figured I could get some advice on here and get th is project rolling. It would help if I knew a little more about Solidworks, I'm sure.
Also, the forum said the "content was incorrect" when I tried to upload a copy of the part.
There doesn't exist a mechanism in SolidWorks to lock a part. (I take that back, you can Lock External References, but I think that is about the only method.)
If you can't roll back in the Feature Manager and redefine the edge to be straight, you might want to use the Replace Face tool. Extrude a Planar Surface in the position that you want the face on the solid model. Then use Replace Face to replace the curved face with the target face.
