I'm trying to install SW2012 32 bit at home, and neither 64, or 32 bit works in my DVD player. The 64 bit worked on my work computer earlier, and other DVDs work in my player.
Also, I'm pretty sure the company I work for has a supprt subscription, but I don't know how to use it to try and download SW from the website. Any help would be appreciated.
Deepak, thanks for your quick reply as usual. I don't think I can do that. The download section has a lock next to it meaning "Active subscription service contract required for full access."

Does the account is on your company serial number?? If yes then you can talk to your VAR to get that download link fixed else make a new account using the company serial number and you should be good to use downloads.
Deepak, it gave me some error about the previous record had been modified. I can't find the registration page anymore, and everytime I click the login button it logs me in the current account.

Once you login then logout and close your browser. Then try again.
Deepak, I found out multiple times that logging out and logging back in doesn't work. I even deleted all my cookies to get the login out of the system.
Anyway....
I finally got things to work with the serial number, and then I activated my product with the serial number. Now the locks are (mostly) gone.
Now it doesn't recognize the port@server, but it appears to be downloading something.
Will it work?
In case you find issues, you can download the required files manually and then install.

Make sure the Internet Address is corect. The installation Manager encountered a problem and must be shot down.
I'm new to Windows7.
Can you please advise me?
This issue can be caused if there is corrupt data in the following folder:
C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\SolidWorks\Installation Manager Data\ <SW Version> Try renaming the folder <SW Version> and then check again.
Obvious thing first - make sure the DVD isn't scratched, dirty, etc. (I've seen this happen before)
Are you trying to install SW on a 32 or 64 bit computer / WinXp, or Win7?
You can't install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit computer, the last version you could do this was with 2011 & Xp
Usually the locks indicate there is no active sub for the serial number you have tied to your account, have you gone through the "Register my products" section on the portal?
Double check the serial # you are using to install. If you use a network version at work then you will need a separate HUL (Home Use License), this serial number is different than your network serial. If you use a standalone license at work then the one you will use at home is the same.
David, the DVDs don't even have a fingerprint on them, and they worked at work today. Other DVDs work in my dual layer burner, too.
Right now I'm (oh rats, it error-ed out, and now i'm retrying OK). So I'm downloading it now, but it couldn't find my server, which I can understand because how could it be found on the Internet with port@server? Anyway, will the SoldWorks work after it's installed?

Yes but as David said, you would need a HUL. Contact your VAR.

When you put the DVD into the drive what did you select?
With it asking for the port@server I would tend to think the server products were selected to be installed?

Without knowing what you picked it's hard to say. From what I've heard so far, it sounds like you went the "I'm installing off the DVD but it is a an older service pack and I am having it updated to the latest via Installation Manager" route?
I would be concerned w/ the serial # you used for this as well. It also sounds like you are using a network serial, if that's the case you will need to get a HUL from your VAR
Does it say how big the download size is? If I remember correctly the 2012 SP4 full download is about 5 1/2 gigs?
Either way, let the download finish and see what happens
David, The DVD doesn't work, so it's Internet only right now. The file size is 2093 Mb as shown in the download progress bar.
Almost done now...
I'm installing now. I can see by the progress bar it will probably take another hour or five to install.
If it doesn't work, I think I'm going to forget it.

Does your serial number start with a 9000 or a 0010?
If is is 0010 you are trying to use your company serial number that needs a license server installed. You can't use this at home. You will need to talk to your people at work who manages the company account and the VAR to get a Home Use License of SolidWorks. This will be a different serial number then what you use for work.

Anna, it starts with "9010", so you could say it starts with both 0010 AND 9000.
That is a network license needing a license server. You will not be able to get SW to install until you get a Home Use License.

I had an epiphany this morning when I got to work, it is super easy to get Solidworks running at home now. All I had to do is connect to my work's network to my home network via VPN, and presto! Premium Solidworks! The license server is found, and is used just like at work.
Now I need a faster computer....

Login in to customer portal and then go to Download and updated. Download the required version and SP.
