I have a question on how you would design a mold for this part. I usually just cavity the plastic part
into my plates and insert the necessary cores. Would it be easier to use solidworks mold tools such
as parting-lines, shutoff, parting surfaces, etc. to do this design. I have tried using the mold tools and
have not been able to get anywhere. A square part would be no problem. Could someone please demo
how to do this part? Thanks
The mold for this part will split down the middle. The FRONT plane. The core will come
in from the side with the draft. It will be molded using a vertical mold press with horizontal injection.

Noel, have you gone through the mold tools tutorials in SolidWorks? I used to use the same methods you mention, but now prefer the mold tools because I can create shut-off surfaces and other things with them along the way.
By the way, I noticed your first revolve feature has a non-tangent arc joining the vertical line. Is that intentional? After looking at the revolve sketch, I noticed most the sketch is unconstrained, so a simple drag of one of the blue segments throws the sketch off-screen. You may want to check that out and make sure everything is really as you desire. It seems unstable to me, and you may have sketch segments wander around and change your geometry without you knowing--could get expensive if it's after you cut the tooling.
Yes I have looked at the tutorials briefly. I noticed the sketch was unconstrained. This is how we get them
from our product people sometimes. I was running into trouble with defining the parting line and parting surfaces. Seemed
like solidworks wanted to make a core where a cavity should have been. I need two cavities to start with. Then I will bring the
core in from the side.
