I have one assembly with 3 parts... assembly is having 2 configuration ..i just want to change part configuration without using design table in assembly...is it possible in solidworks 2012 sp4.
can i use equation to change configuration
I have exactly the same problem :-) I would like to make an equation and depending on the outcome of the equation, change the configuration of the assembly or part. I can do this with the solidworks API, no problem but we want to accomplish this task without the API. We are looking for an automation process that uses a standard API input so that it can be used by everyone. For this reason we want to do everything in solidworks.
It is not possible directly, as u want.
So you have to use design table for doing the same.
Since equation can not be applied on part's dimensions in assembly.
So i hope you will go for work-arounds.
if we will be able to change configuration through equation it will be great...we dont have to make too much configuration ...and part level dimensions we can control on assembly level..by global variable...
I also make use of global variables and equations to make my assembly more intelligent. The equations can drive dimensions in the parts in my assembly. U just have to make sure you edit the part in assembly mode and select the global variables to make your equations. It is really a handy way to make your designs intelligent :-)
Not really but you can insert multiples of the same part, each with a different configuration, and supress/unsupress via an equation. In the Equation Editor->Equation view->Features:
