Saving as part

I want to save some assemblies we have of supplier parts such as valves which have a lot of parts in the actuator that are hidden from view.

I want to make these a lot simpler to speed up large assembly opening times.

I have done this before many time but I am always unhappy with all the gaps and faulty faces this produces, I usually fix these in the import diagnostics, is there a better way, as this does not always resolve all of the faults and I am still left with the blue highlight to the edge of faulty geometry.

What I am really asking is the best way to repair the gaps and faulty faces???

Correct Answer

If you save as from assembly you can save as a .sldprt go into options and this will give you a variety of settings including saving a external surfaces, external bodies, or all bodies. I generally go for all bodies and delete the ones I don't want myself.

Is there a reason why you're saving as surfaces as opposed to solids? If you save as solid bodies you can delete any bodies you don't want. Permanently delete them as opposed to a delete body feature.

Never ever spotted the options, you saved me a lot of time both in repairing surfaces and rebuild time.

part as surface 1.62 Sec plus an hour fixing it

part as solid 0.11 Sec

If you're doing a lot of files, you might want to look at task scheduler.

You might take a look at "Defeature" under the "Tools" menu dropdown. It could very well do what you are wanting to do. There are several options in that to keep what you want, eliminate what you don't want, etc., even movement and animation.

I use this when we need to send a model of a product to a vendor for packaging design and I don't want them to have access to everything that goes on with the part. I do mine so that they can view it exactly as it is on the outside, but as one big part, not the whole assembly.

That might be what you're looking for.
