I was just now successful in Importing new data into a new
Standard from a spreadsheet. See my posted reply under my original
post entitled "IMPORT not working when editing standards data".
I've also included an example spreadsheet there.

Once again, try creating a new Standard using the Tools >
Options > Data Options > Edit Standards Data, then edit the
new Standard instead of the standard supplied with SolidWorks
Toolbox. You can then try to Export to a spreadsheet, edit the data
and correct the part numbers you want to see, then Import the
spreadsheet and see if the changes are there. This would be much
more effective than editing part numbers one at a time . . . if it
works. As I've mentioned a number of times, the Import function
DOESN'T work in SolidWorks 2005, but I can't get anyone to tell me
whether it works in 2006.
I am using SW06 and it seems to work on some files and not on
others. For ex: on one of my assembly drawings, 2 out of 6 hardware
part numbers are listed by my part number. The rest just keep on
resetting themselves after closing the file and re-opening it. A
different file seems to be working fine. All hardware keep my
customize part numbers. Just weird.
See my post entitled "IMPORT not working when editing
standards data". What you would like to do can at least be
theoretically accomplished very easily by exporting the standards
data for your hardware into spreadsheet format, editing it as a
spreadsheet (to add the nomenclature you want) and then
re-importing it into the standards data. The problem with 2005 is
that the Import function apparently doesn't work -- a real
travesty. If it works in 2006 you have a very powerful tool as your
disposal.
I am currently assigning part numbers to my hardware and it
calls it out on my Drawings correctly, except the description does
not show up on my BOM, so I have to overrite the description
manually until I can figure this problem. The next biggest
challenge I am facing is when I save and close my drawing and
re-open it, all my hardware part numbers are reset to the SW
default. Any suggestions? I do have the different hardware
segragated into different named folders. I even went into the
hardware file configuration manager and changed the BOM part number
displayed and change it there and it still resets it.
I am having the same problem with a spring pin out of the
ansi standard Inch. I don't want to use a new standard because we
have been using this one for some time. The weird thing is that it
is my description in the actual configuration in the properties
that show the wrong description. I can't change it because the
toolbox is setup reonly. If I do another spring pin with a
different configuration it works fine.
To be specific it is a 1/4 x 1 1/2 spring pin. I assigned a
new part number and a new description to it and it comes up with
the correct part number wrong description.
When we have run into this issue with toolbox parts it was
because someone entered information into the custom properties
where it didn't belong. This is only an issue with parts that have
multiple configurations (like a bolt with multiple lengths)
Proprerties placed on the top level "Custom" tab will behave
globally (show up in every bolt) Properties placed in the on the
"Configuration Specific" tab will only show for that specific
config (each bolt length).
We generally put supplier/vendor information on the "Custom"
tab (only have to enter it once and it shows on all parts in
family). Then on the Configuration Specific tab we place our
internal part# and item description (entries for each unique part)
