My IT guy wants to rebuild our current PDMWroks server, and is asking if we can temporarily move PDMWorks to a virtual server then move it back.
My thought was just to build a new server and copy it there.
Any thoughts?
thanks,
Brian

PDM Works does not work well with any remote server, WAN or virtual server where the bandwidth and lag time deteriorate too far. You will notice more vault crashes, SW crashes and will need to rebuild the vault more often.
At a previous job, we had a large vault that was moved to a remote location. We had many stability issues until we improved the bandwidth and set up an automated vault shut-down and rebuild each night. Once we worked through these issues the perfomance was decent, but never as good as a local server.

Technically VMs are not supported for PDMWorks. SPR 490929 is setup to track this.
I'm sure it's been done and has worked, but it will be hard to get support from SolidWorks if you run into any problems.
I'd copy over your VaultData folder and give it a try. Can't hurt anything to test it out.
