I am trying to model the coctail shaker that is shown in the attached photo. I have created the top and the bottom, but can't figure out how to create the path for a swept cut. Or maybe I am not approaching this correctly.
Richard, I'd be inclined to more fully define the sketches, you can dimension the length and angle of the spline handles. Draw a construction line from the outer bottom to the outer top so you can determine the angle from the axis. You can then add a helix with an outward draft of the same angle. A sweep cut along the helix will get you the form and then you can alter the parameters until it looks right then you can add a circular pattern. I'd post a file but it looks like you're in 2011.
Post your sldprt file with what you have tried so far.....
I have updated the discussion by including the file in the attachment.
Hope this helps.
by varying the sketch and ruled surface, you can get the desired result.
You'll want to play with the parameters of the features to get the proportions right but something like this would work.
Sorry, but I was having a great time playing around with this so I figured I'd share.
This was my 5 min lunchbreak attempt.
Made with a swept cut from the base, twisted 180deg around a vertical path, the filleted and patterned.
