I am trying to make a mirror of a weldment frame.
I can get the part to mirror but it loses all of its features and cut list information.
can anyone help out?
If you mirror by selecting 'bodies' you should get the right cutlist come in on your drawing.
Right click on your cutlist in your part and click update.
What do you mean loses all of its features?
Mirror it by using body to mirror and after mirror update your cut list
Should this be done at an assembly level or a part level?
It depends on what you want. If you just need another instance of the same part in your assembly, then do it in the assembly with the Mirror Components command. If you need a mirror image of an asymmetrical part, you can also do that in the assembly with the Mirror Components command. After selecting the mirror plane and the component to mirror, click on the blue arrow at the top right of the CommandManager and click on the icon beside "Create opposite hand version" near the bottom. Then hit the blue arrow pointing right again and make the choice whether to create a new part file or make a derived configuration in the same file.
If you are working with a multi-body part and want to mirror a particular body then you would do that in the part file.
Thanks for responding guys.
I must be doing soming thing wrong.
I attached the files i am trying to mirror in my original message just now.
I still dont get the options to update my cut list etc when i mirror the weldment.
Try to delete existing cut list and create a new one.
Take a look at this discussion. This method is successful if you want to create fabrication details for the mirrored weldment.
I`ve got mirrored weldment with all linked properties of parent part without any problem.
I know this is an old thread but I had the same issue recently and decided while this gives some hints how to solve this it isn't well stated. My first attempt was to use the mirror part command which generates a new part file with a derived parts, however this didn't propagate the cut list properties.
The trick to keeping the same cultist when working with a weldment part mirror is to use the mirror bodies command which will double all the parts in the cultist which are identical and add new parts which are asymmetric mirrors. Then use the delete bodies command to delete all of the original parts which cuts the double number in half and eliminates all the asymmetric parts from the original. Then you just need to update the properties for the new items. You end up with a single part file for both configurations which makes updates much easier to deal with so long as you always work on the non-mirrored version for the updates (unless they only apply to the mirror)
My one hint on this is to mirror the <As Welded> configuration, not the <as machined> so that you get the actual cut list.
I'll have to try this next time I need to mirror a weldment. The last time I tried, it was a nightmare. I was working on big job that was quoted too low, so I thought to myself "I'll mirror all these weldments and save a ton of time". With the time I spent fighting with the cutlists I could have just remodeled the weldments for the opposite side and been faster. Looking forward to trying this method.
Bug!Mirror of weldment which is inside subassembly
