JMP Engineering Inc.  Automation team is growing from a small team to a world-class provider of automation solutions across North America.  We are looking for enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, innovative engineering talent that is excited about building a team and building a company.

 

As a senior mechanical design specialist, you will work with the Automation team in London, ON to design and deliver world-class automation solutions for the food and beverage, oil and gas, and consumer products industries.

 

Role Mission/Purpose

 

  • Set mechanical design standards and share knowledge across JMP
  • To concept, design and successfully deploy world-class automation systems by ensuring world-class mechanical design

 

Responsibilities

 

Mechanical Design

  • Collaborate with clients to concept creative, practical solutions to automation challenges
  • Work with a team to develop and refine mechanical design process, standards and strategies:
    • Ensure the highest-quality automation equipment functionality and performance
    • Ensure the simplest, most practical manufacturability
    • Ensure the most efficient engineering process through continual input and feedback into design process for optimization
  • Leading mechanical teams:
    • Mentoring junior employees
    • Manage all aspects of design, manufacturing and build

 

Competencies:  Skills, Knowledge, and Experiences

 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience using mechanical design best practices
  • Produce working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product, using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Experience analyzing designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. OSHA, CE or customer specific)
  • Leadership capabilities within internal teams and customer based teams
  • Capable of explaining detailed engineering concepts and ideas in laymen’s terms to operational management within customers
    • Capability of designing based on sketches and verbal concepts
    • Ability to evaluate manufacturing processes and select the best technologies for improvements
    • Vendor and sub-contractor management skills
    • Driven to take on new initiatives, roles and responsibilities in a growing team
    • Determine tools, fixtures and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly or mechanical components and complete assemblies
    • Extensive knowledge of common fabrication and manufacturing techniques (i.e. machining, laser cutting, welding, etc.)
    • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, and  hardness
    • Liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff
    • Liaise with vendors for technical information and specifications
