Missing feature for Feature Driven Component

I could use a little help w/ an assembly.

I've made a multi-body part (Part A). One body (Body B) in the multi-body uses the fill pattern feature to array blind holes into Body B. I inserted Body B into a new, separate part (Part C). Part C is used in an Assembly (Assembly D). Assembly D is composed of Part C and a new part, Part E. I would like to use the Feature Driven Componet Pattern to array Part E onto Part C at each of the blind holes. However, the fill pattern feature is only associated with Part A, not Part C. Part C seems to be just a simple model w/o any feature details. Any ideas?

Correct Answer

That is as designed. When you Insert a Part into another Part you do not get the feature tree. You are bringing in the solid body only.

Why do you need such a complex modeling structure? Seems a bit convoluted.

Hard to judge since we only have a word description of what you are doing.

Anna, there is a way to insert parts into other parts and get their features in the tree. You just need to select "Break link to original part" in the Insert Part dialog box.

I agree with Anna, the process is overly complex. If you really need the pattern from part A, insert part a, create the pattern, and hide part a, making sure to omit it from any bom.

Perhaps I should have started with an Assembly - and then built multiple bodies (from within the Assembly). For some reason, I always found it easier to start w/ a multibody part, and proceed through the exercise above.

It's worth a go. You have all the parts for the assembly already. You could do save-as copies of part adding delete bodies to create the seperate parts and maintaining the feature tree in each.
