Sorry forgot to mention:
I'm running Solidworks Premium 2011 SP 2.0
In the headsup display there is a section view button (looks like a cylinder cut in half, or access it from View -> Display -> Section view). You can use this to temporarily remove any unneeded geometry while modelling.
Multiple section views (specified in the property manager) can remove let's say, 2/3rds of a model to reveal inner corners
Did you tried using Camera view or simply create a new view orientation which shows the inside view. Then you can always switch to the new view orientation as and when required while you're in the model.
