getting this error when trying to login to pdm works. will not accept my login or default pdmworks admin login. any ideas?
Check to see that there is no Service Pack mismatch between the SolidWorks Workgroup PDM add-in (Client) and the SolidWorks Workgroup PDM Server (Vault). The Vault 40 Error typically shows up when the Vault is at an earlier service pack than the Client. To check the current Client and Vault relationship; from within SolidWorks go to Help, “About SolidWorks Workgroup PDM” for the current read out.
Although Error 40 is quite generic; some issues were related to the mismatch of Vault, Client Service Packs.

Was the system working fine before and then just started giving you this error? So what changed?
Check to see if the pdmworkgroup service is running on the server, you will need to have access to the server or at least be able to remote access it to check this under Admin Tools.
If the service is running then it could be a port issue, or a firewall blocking access, anti-virus blocking access, etc. I will need you to answer my first question in order to narrow the scope of troubleshooting.
yeah it was working fine and now its not. only thing that in know that happened was the server was restarted.
If you have not already tried, I would suggest "repairing" the PDM install - if necessary, reinstall. Repair is reached from "Control Panel / programs" depending on your operating system.
