I was wondering if any knows of an easy foolproof way of capturing a shape of a part. Let me try to explain. If I wanted to surround a part or an assembly in Styrofoam for packaging purposes what would be the best way to do this? Kind of like placing a part in the middle of a block and subtracting the part and having only its simplified shape remain to be used to manufacture Styrofoam pieces. I have used surfaces and also the indent feature, but nothing seems to be straight forward and easy. Furthermore, it would be better if it were link free when completed – no base or reference part.  Any thoughts on this? Is there a tool in SW that I’m missing or is this just the nature of the beast?
