I have a unique request from my manager that I haven't been able to solve. I've been asked to create a weldment cut list, but the twist is that even though it consolidates equal structural components into one item with quantity of two, we need to break every item individually with quantity of one (example below);
Item Description Length QTY
1 c4x7.25 14'-7" 1
2 c4x7.25 14'-7" 1
Is there a way to achieve this?

You can create a Bill of Material of a weldment part file that is something like that. For the properties of the Bill of Material select Indented for the BOM type and then uncheck "Detailed cut list". This will give the quantity colum in total length for that size. There are issues with this in that it combines dissimilar materials and non weldment bodies have issues.

I think I understand now. For cut lists SolidWorks uses the Material custom property as a separator for identical members. To get what you want the Material custom property would have to include the HEAT NUMBER. This would separate the default item 1 into items 1 and 2 and then default item 2 into items 3 and 4.
Then you need another custom property to display as the MATERIAL in your cut list.
Is there a way to add selections to the material sidebar when you start creating the weldment? Sort of like in custom properties?
I've received a solution! In the weldment, expand the cut list, then expand each sub-cut list, then drag each member to the upper level (make sure to uncheck "Automatic" to disable update. Then you can right-click each member and add to cut list for each individual componet.

I had forgotten about manually controlling cut list items. In your case it should not be a problem since there is a quantity of one for each item. The issue you have is if there are more than a quantity of one. Then there is a possibility that they really are not the same. It will use the custom properties for the first item in the cut list folder..
