We are getting ready to utilize Toolbox. I would like sugestions, pitfals etc. What should I be aware when updating versions.
Any suggestions advice , please pass on.
Check out http://www.logopress3.com/en/products-6.php and check out their Free 123go program first, before you implement Toolbox. This program is much easier to use. It does not utilize a database like Toolbox does, which could lead to problems in some situations.
I had them come in an do a demo at our UG meeting... he did not try to sell us anything, but with software like that everyone in the group was floored with this free software and the Sheet metal tools they have... that software is truly a amazing.
If you are going to use SW Toolbox and plan to modify some of the parts and save them with a different name in a different location, then watch out for this.
If you are updating Solidworks from a previous version, letting it update the existing toolbox to the newer version would be the easiest path but make sure you have a backup copy of the original toolbox first.
If you haven't used toolbox before familiarize yourself with the standards that are available and disable any of them that you will not be using. This simplifies the options for the users. We are using ansi-inch & ansi-metric but I have also had to enable DIN for a few metric fasteners that are not included with the ansi-metric files. In hindsight it may have been better to use the DIN standard in place of the ansi-metric based on fasteners sizes that are available from our vendors but there is too much data associated with the ansi-metric files to change now. I read something about SW2012 toolbox allowing folders to be copied so it may be possible to merge the few DIN items we use into the ansi standard.
