Take a look at the 2012 SWW presentations - I gave one on SolidWorks Best Practices - Why I do it Like This. I could relist those here but it might be easier to watch the whole thing.
But probably my two main points would be to always use symmetry unless there is a reason not to, and figure out a set of hotkeys that make sense to you and use them - they will make you faster.

Best practices is an open term and there are many tentacles, and here is a list of just a few points;

4. And what I think is foremost, equipment used, because we can all design stuff, however it must be made. Sometimes we get something made by an outside company, because we didn't have the equipment, however most of the time our design practices are dictated by the equipment we have here.
