In the past when I wanted to add relationships between parts, I could use equations because it was simple (e.g. a shaft and a hole).  I am working on a more complicated assembly, and while it would be possible to use equations, it would be much easier to use convert/offset entities in the part's sketch.

However, when I do this, the part basically becomes locked in that particular place when I made the sketch.  Moving the part out of that position requires a rebuild...and after rebuilding, the part is moved right back.  Adding any mates that locate the part somewhere else will overdefine the parts position and give me errors.

My goal is to move/mate the part any way I want, but still have it relate to another part in the assembly using convert/offset entities.  Is this even possible?  Is my only other option to use equations?
